De trabajadores a individuos. Los mineros bolivianos entre dos siglos

En este trabajo intentamos pensar la construcción cultural y organizacional del trabajador minero, desde los orígenes de su protesta hasta su situación actual. Pensar historicamente, de acuerdo con Pierre Vilar, significa "situar, fechar, medir. sin cesar" (1992:21). Se trata entonces de entender el devenir minero no como a una profecía autocumplida o como una perversa desviación de la misma. Corresponde en cambio asumir, con Zavalera, quien siguiendo a E.P. Thompson, afirmaba que 'una clase es lo que ha srdo su hiitoria"; esto es la forma que en el tiempo se entrelaqzan sus experiencias, sus costumbres y su modo de ser con el mandato societal, estatal y empresarial. Bajo este imperativo, empezaremos nuestro recorrido a fines del siglo XIX, cuando los mineros boliviano enfrentaron un proceso de modernización liberal que desestructuró sus usos y sus costumbres de raigambre colonial y lo concluiremos a fines del siglo XX, cuando la modernización neoliberal socaivó su base física, su cultura política y su idencidad social.
