En este trabajo la autora aborda la problemática del nacionalismo entre los trabajadores del salitre desde fines del siglo XIX hasta la emergencia de las ligas patrióticas hacia 1911. Establece una relación entre las interpretaciones populares de la Guerra del Pacífico, la Guerra Civil de 1891 y la desperuanización de la provincia deTarapacá. Además, comparte la tesis que ve en la nación "una comunidad imaginada" y en el nacionalismo una especie de religión cívica, producto del accionar del Estado y de sus clases dirigentes y, por tanto, una creación. Sin embargo, al mismo tiempo, sostiene que él también se nutre "desde abajo', de la cultura, de una experiencia histórica compartida.Downloads
